Kilimani Neighborhood Guide
About Kilimani
Kilimani is a prime residential area conveniently located about 10 minutes from Nairobi’s city center. Known for its mix of maisonettes and apartments, Kilimani is also rapidly developing into a prime commercial zone. The greater Kilimani area includes smaller, gated estates like Riara and Hurlingham.
History of Kilimani
Since the 1990s, Kilimani has transformed significantly, with many old 1950s bungalows being replaced by modern multi-storey apartments and office blocks. Most new apartments are over five stories high, featuring beautiful balconies, gardens, communal swimming pools, saunas, and health clubs.
Jogging and power walking are popular activities in Kilimani, thanks to the abundant tree shade, low traffic volumes (except on Argwings Kodhek Road), and the area’s undulating terrain.
